There's nothing worse after a paycheck than having the numbers not add, than having that negative sign in front of a figure. So, here we are, on the raggedy edge.

My first hospitalization. That felt like a Dar Williams' cover: "Everybody knows this is nowhere." And for nearly seven days in the hospital, I wrote it on everything I drew, everything I wrote. But I never could remember the next bit, the chorus. Just that line. Running and running through my head, out of my hand, onto anything I touched.
